Aiyaan D’Rozario is 17 years old and is currently a Senior at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School. She started performing at the age of five but everyone has told her she could dance before she could even walk. Her first dance performance was at the age of five in the school play Annie. When she was in middle school, she earned the name of the “Little Indian Dancer” after her first performance at their annual talent show and after that she has been invited to perform for a couple of private shows. At the age of eleven, she performed with Camp Broadway in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She is now currently enrolled in a four year dance program in her high school.
She began her Kathak training at the age of seven under the guidance of Guru Smt. Jamuna Mitcham. She has had the opportunity to perform with Shraddranjali Indian Dance Academy in numerous shows throughout the tri-state area. Her love for Indian Classical Dance has grown so rapidly that she is keen to study its different dance forms and is currently hoping to pursue a career in dance.
“Dance to me is like dreaming on my feet. Over the years I have dreamed many dreams and lost myself in the rhythm of music. Each dream has been more wonderful and each new movement I have learnt has added color and texture to my life. Today, I dance to honor music and the story each form of dance holds. Today, I dance to honor the loved ones who love me back so much. Today, I dance for you.” ~Aiyaan D’Rozario
